We are seeking a Content Marketing Specialist to join our team of inbound marketing and enrollment marketing experts. In this role, you will be responsible for the creation of a wide range of content marketing assets—from blog posts and ebooks to emails and social media postings. This involves supporting content creation in each stage of its lifecycle—from research to production to analysis and optimization. In addition to creating content, you will help your team strategize new approaches, topics and keywords to pursue in future pieces; and help optimize individual posts for maximum impact. The right candidate will have a passion for quality writing, the ability to be both creative and analytical, and have a foundation in SEO techniques and best practices.

This is a client-facing position, meaning you will be responsible for creating content for several of Pepperland’s clients, ultimately serving their end-users and customers. Current topical areas of focus include careers and education, architectural design, and high-tech and industrial manufacturing.

We are a growing team with big ideas and proven impact. You will be constantly learning and adapting to new, best practices, and brainstorming and experimenting with new approaches. This is a perfect position for someone who has a passion for marketing, excellent communication skills, and a drive and enthusiasm to learn and try new things. Along with direct responsibilities, you will have direct exposure to many other aspects of digital marketing, and the opportunity to develop new skills through collaboration with others on your team of content creators, marketing strategists, inbound marketing specialists, designers and developers.

Responsibilities

  • Writing: You’ll write blog posts, product/service pages, promotional emails, social media posts, and more in a range of styles and voices, for real Pepperland clients
  • Research: You’ll learn how to research the topics that you are writing about, whether that is by conducting interviews with subject matter experts, sourcing expert quotes, or simply conducting your own independent research.
  • Content Strategy: Beyond writing, you’ll also learn how to identify topics that are relevant to our clients and their customers, and learn about the other things that make great content—images, visuals, interactive elements, etc. There may also be opportunities to develop buyer personas and other materials to support your content-focused tasks. The output of your research and strategic thinking will be client-facing deliverables such as Content Briefs, Personas, and Content Plans.
  • SEO: While this is primarily a content-focused role, the right candidate will have knowledge of SEO best practices and the ability to create content that rises to the top of search results. You will need to revisit content that was previously written to optimize it for improved rankings. You will also need to collaborate with SEO specialists on the team to help identify strategies and tactics that blend SEO needs and opportunities with content marketing best practices.

Additionally, you will be asked to:

  • Keep tasks and projects up to date in our project management software, Teamwork, with regular communication about a task’s progress. Ensure that all deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Pepperland team, including our Strategists, Specialists, Editor, Designers & Developers.
  • Share and communicate research findings and advice to our clients during regularly scheduled video calls, in-person meetings, and through email.
  • Contribute to our agency’s marketing efforts, contributing to occasional articles for the Pepperland Blog, live webinars, and public speaking engagements.
  • Continue to follow and monitor breaking news and trending topics in clients’ industry verticals, and become knowledgeable enough to generate industry-specific ideas to quickly produce content that would enable clients to enter those trends.
  • Review and analyze the performance of your published content across all channels (search, social, email, etc), and communicate progress to the larger editorial team. Aim to understand why some articles are successful, and others are not, and develop new guidelines and best practices based on these observations that can be shared with others on the team.
  • Acts as a brand ambassador for the agency, participating in internal marketing initiatives and helping to share Pepperland’s insights, models, frameworks and best practices with both prospects and clients

Requirements

  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree in a relevant field or equivalent working experience. Experience in a marketing environment is preferred. Agency experience a plus.
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written.
  • Prior experience in a content marketing role, with your primary focus on blog content
  • Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships in a remote working environment.
  • Must be organized, resourceful, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Good time-management skills, with great interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain project timelines and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Close attention to detail, i.e. near perfect grammar and strong editing skills (feel free to point out typos and other errors in this posting if you see them)
