Because mobile traffic has surpassed desktop, optimizing your conversion rate for mobile is now essential. Instead of looking at your site solely from behind your laptop, you must consider the mobile user’s experience as well. 62% of companies which have designed their websites for mobile platforms have reported an increase in sales (SmartInsights). Your company can do the same with its inbound marketing strategy

You simply cannot avoid these statistics:

  • 80.8% of users report reading email on mobile devices. (HubSpot)
  • 37% of consumers are more likely to purchase on a mobile-optimized site. (ExactTarget
  • 54% of consumers believe that it is easier to find information on mobile-optimized sites. (ExactTarget
  • 27% of consumers will leave a site if it is not mobile-optimized. (ExactTarget

I convinced you, right?

Now, in order to optimize your mobile features and raise your conversion rates you must must make it simple and easy for users.

We have narrowed down the five CRO tips that are especially helpful for your mobile conversion rate:

Use a Sticky Menu

Have you ever been on a website that has the menu always show on the screen even as you scroll? That’s called a sticky menu.

Why is it important? Sticky menus increase convenience for mobile users. Users do not have to go through the pain of scrolling back to the top when they wish to navigate to another section of your website. Sticky menus are convenient for desktop users as well because it is one less step in the way of looking at the menu.

How does it increase conversions? Having a sticky menu on your website increases conversions by keeping your call to action on the screen as users scroll.

Underline Your Phone Number and Make It Clickable

Another easy way to optimize your conversion rate on mobile is to underline your phone number and make it a link.

Why is it important? You want to make it clear to mobile users that your phone number is clickable as well as draw attention to it, so that they will call you. To make your phone number stand out more, you can change its color to a secondary color of your brand.

How does it increase conversions? When it’s obvious that visitors can call you with ease by tapping on your phone number link, more people will convert.

Use Conversion Tracking Software

Rather than making assumptions about why a visitor is on your page, install conversion tracking software to observe their behavior on your website. A new and easy way to do this is by using Hotjar, a powerful tool that reveals the online behavior and voice of your users.

Why is it important? This will give you clues as to what users need and what catches their attention. Conversion tracking software will allow you to:

  • Create heat maps
  • Analyze form drop-offs
  • Measure funnels

How does it increase conversions? You can use the valuable information from conversion tracking software to improve your conversion rate. For example, if you detect a potential reason visitors are leaving before making it all the way through your funnel, you can fix the problem and observe results after the change.

Don’t Forget the Search Box!

Some businesses have deleted the search box from their websites or have never included it on their sites. This is a mistake.

Why is it important? You want users to be able to easily find what they are looking for on your site. They don’t want to scroll through hundreds of blog posts on the slim chance they’ll find what they’re looking for.

How does it increase conversions? In a few seconds, they will know whether or not your website has information on a specific topic of their choice when you include a search box.

Improve Your Site’s Page Load Speed

How fast your site loads is critical to a successful business. A major culprit of low conversion rates is a long page load speed. No one has the patience to wait on a website to load anymore. If users become frustrated, they will go to another site that loads quickly.

Why is it important? Most people will hit the back button if your site doesn’t load quickly enough, meaning they will never see what you have to offer. Your site’s page load speed is more important for mobile users because sites already run slower on a mobile device.

How does it increase conversions? Improving your site’s speed is important for retaining clickthroughs you get to your website.

Overall Goal: Make converting as easy as possible for customers.

When you’re optimizing your conversion rate, don’t forget about mobile users. You want your website to function well on both desktop and mobile devices, so that you convert and retain the highest number of visitors as possible. Any minor bump along the way should be detected and smoothed out.

Keep in mind that a sticky menu and a clickable phone number will make it easier for users to contact you for further information. Additionally, inserting a search box and a high speed page will make users continue to navigate your site. In order to gain greater insight on your audience, remember to install conversion tracking software.

If you implement all of the tips listed above, you will likely see an increase in your mobile conversion rate.
